A pet owner, frantic about her missing dog, got the shock of her life when she found him in a very unusual place.

Vet tech Cassidy Zimmerman, 22, shared a video of the moment she realized her dog had somehow climbed onto the roof of her home, just as she was in full panic mode, thinking he had disappeared and become injured somewhere.

Bodie is a 1-year-old mixed breed comprising of a German shepherd, Belgian Tervuren, border collie, Labrador retriever, Australian cattle dog and shar-pei—and is quite a handful.

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), German shepherds, border collies, Labrador retrievers and Australian cattle dogs are all high-energy dogs.

The organization describes the Belgian Tervuren as a "tireless, do-it-all dog" who needs "lots of hard work and challenging play"—so it's no wonder Bodie is such a character.

Dog found on roof

In a video shared to TikTok (@cassthegray), Cassidy explained she had gone outside to bring in her dogs, and while one was waiting patiently in the garden, Bodie was nowhere to be seen.

She could hear him crying, however, and when she looked up, she saw Bodie on the roof of the house. But Bodie wasn't as brave coming down as he was going up, and as Zimmerman called him to come down from a ledge, he simply paced up and down and whimpered.

The video went viral, garnering over 5.5 million views since being posted on April 26. Viewers loved both Bodie's escapade and Zimmerman's shocked and sweary reaction. Cassidy captioned the video: "Excuse my language. I was a bit flabbergasted/upset."

Speaking to Newsweek, Zimmerman, who lives in Billings, Montana, said she was dogsitting her friend's dog, Zoey when both pets woke her at the crack of dawn.

After leaving them outside for just 10 minutes, Zoey returned through the dog door without Bodie. Zimmerman said she thought that was "odd because those two are obsessed with each other."

"I can hear him barking and so I get up to find out what's going on, I'm calling him and calling him and he is not coming. That's very odd because he usually comes to me," she said.

"I'm looking in all the bedrooms and bathrooms thinking maybe he locked himself in somewhere. I go outside and can't see him but I can hear him crying."

Zimmerman admitted she was "panicking" in case Bodie had gotten out of the garden and had been hit by a car. She was ready to run out on the street and call her parents for help when she noticed "Zoey looking directly above me."

"So I turn around, and there is Bodie, staring down at me and crying. I couldn't believe my eyes. My brain is going, how? Why? What!?" Zimmerman recalled.

To make matters worse, it was raining, and Bodie was drenched. Since he couldn't get down from the roof, Zimmerman, in her pajamas with no shoes, "climbed up on the roof and had to pick him up."

"I didn't change because I was worried he was just going to Superman off the roof, and I didn't want to take my eyes off him, so I just got him there and then," she explained.

They got off the roof safely, and Bodie then "ran down to Zoey and they played and ran around like nothing even happened."

Did Bodie learn his lesson? Well, not exactly, because that very same day, "he went back up there and started crying."

This time, however, "he had to figure it out for himself," and eventually, he realized that to come down, he just had to walk on the same slanted ledge he climbed to get up there in the first place.

"He has a LOT of character," Zimmerman told Newsweek. "He doesn't have any dog siblings, but I dog-sit quite often, so he gets plenty of time with other dogs."

TikTok users loved her video, with some users pointing out that the ramp to the roof gave Bodie easy access.

One joked that Bodie had "second child energy," despite being Zimmerman's only dog, and another said he was crying like, "Mom, I made some miscalculations."

And as one user put it: "He's like MOM HELP I'M SORRY PLEASE HELP MOM PLEASE!"
