The New York Mets poached a superstar outfielder from the New York Yankees last offseason and it sounds like the club will be interested in doing so again this winter.
The general manager meetings are going on right now and rumors and reports have started to pop up around baseball over the last few days. Unsurprisingly, the high-spending Mets have been connected to some of the biggest names available in free agency.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post weighed in on the Mets and reported that the current expectation is that New York will be taking a look at two-time All-Star and 2019 National League Most Valuable Player Cody Bellinger this offseason.

"The Mets, also we hear not unexpected, will be looking at Cody Bellinger," Heyman said in a Post video. "A guy who fits them perfectly. Right now, they have an opening in center field and an opening at first base, as we know. We'll see if they bring back Pete Alonso, who is the all-time home run champion for the Mets. ... Certainly, Cody Bellinger can play center field, he can play the corner spots. Very versatile guy and an outstanding offensive and defensive player. He had a (5.1) WAR, showed he can play in New York. It will be interesting to see if the Mets can land another big outfielder from the Yankees."
Bellinger had 29 homers and 98 RBIs in 2025 as a member of the Yankees. Both were his highest totals since his MVP season back in 2019. At just 30 years old, it's reasonable to think he has a lot of good years left. Plus, the fact that he's versatile and can play in the outfield and at first base, certainly doesn't hurt his case in free agency.
Whatever happens with Alonso, Bellinger would be a perfect target for the Mets.
