The New York Mets have lost a handful of stars in free agency this offseason. Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz both bolted for deals with new teams, and the pressure is building up on the Mets this offseason.

New York needs to make a few moves to bolster its roster, especially after these losses. The front office should be looking to build up the starting rotation after it was a major weakness of the team this year.

Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball predicted the Mets would sign free agent pitcher Framber Valdez to an "Alex Bregman contract" worth $120 million over three years.

Houston Astros pitcher Framber Valdez

"Last year, Alex Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, with heavy deferrals that took the AAV down from $40 million per, closer to $31 million per when it came to the present-day value for the luxury tax," Finkelstein wrote. "The Mets can now look to employ the same strategy as a way to get Framber Valdez to agree to a short-term deal."

Valdez is the perfect option for the Mets, especially if he's considering signing on to a short-term deal like this.

The Mets have the money to ink him to a huge contract this winter, but that level of financial commitment could be a bit intimidating. If Valdez is willing to take a three-year deal worth a higher annual value, it could benefit both sides. Valdez would get the money he's looking for while the Mets would land the ace they need.
