The New York Mets are off to a bit of a slow start this season. Despite a busy offseason, they entered Saturday 4-4 through their first eight games of the season.

New York added Freddy Peralta and Marcus Semien via trade and signed Bo Bichette, Jorge Polanco, Devin Williams and Luke Weaver in free agency. However, New York was not done making moves after those signings.

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, New York has agreed to a minor league deal with a veteran reliever and 2021 World Series champion.

"The Mets and veteran reliever Luke Jackson are in agreement on a minors deal, league sources tell The Athletic," Sammon posted Saturday on X.

Jackson split the 2025 season with the Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners. The 34-year-old appeared in 52 games and recorded nine saves while posting a 4.06 ERA.

The veteran right-hander was with the Atlanta Braves in 2021 when they won their first World Series title since 1995. Following that season, he joined the San Francisco Giants.

If Jackson can stay healthy, then he can be a solid depth option for the Mets in their bullpen. New York already has a stout relief corps, but Jackson could be a key part of that if he can work his way through the minor leagues and if any injuries take place on the major league roster.

It will be interesting to see what New York does with its bullpen and if it will have a spot for Jackson anytime soon.
