A 20-year-old man was slashed in the neck with a broken glass bottle near the New York Knicks’ ticker-tape parade on Thursday in Lower Manhattan, New York City police said.
The incident happened around 11:50 a.m. near 1 Centre Street as massive crowds gathered in Lower Manhattan for one of the largest city celebrations in decades.
Authorities told Newsweek in a brief phone call that the victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was in stable condition. The altercation began after the man made an inappropriate comment to a woman, sparking a confrontation that escalated into violence, New York's WPIX reported.

What Else Happened at Knicks Parade?
The slashing occurred as the city prepared for the Knicks’ ticker‑tape celebration, which had already seen eight people arrested near Broadway and Battery Place around 8:20 a.m., though the charges were not immediately clear.
The New York City Fire Department said that at least nine people were sickened or injured along the route and taken to hospitals, with others evaluated on scene as dispatchers handled a surge in calls.
The violence followed a post‑game attack in San Antonio, Texas, where a father and son from New Jersey were assaulted after the Knicks’ championship-clinching victory in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Spurs on Saturday.
New York Knicks Parade: What to Know
The Knicks’ championship parade began at 10 a.m., launching from Bowling Green at the southern tip of Manhattan before moving up Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes, the traditional route for New York’s major civic celebrations. Fans began lining the barricades hours earlier, filling viewing pens that stretched block after block as the procession made its way toward City Hall Park.
Floats carried players, coaches and team staff past confetti‑covered sidewalks, with crowds climbing scaffolding, traffic poles and building steps to get a better view. City agencies had prepared for the turnout with rolling street closures, designated pedestrian lanes and a heavy police presence along the route. Several subway stations, including Wall Street (4/5) and City Hall (R/W), were temporarily closed to prevent overcrowding on platforms.
The parade concluded at City Hall Plaza, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani hosted the official ceremony and presented the team with keys to the city. The plaza reached capacity early, with thousands more watching from surrounding streets as the program unfolded.
When Was Last Time Knicks Won Championship?
The Knicks’ most recent title was in 1973, a season defined by one of the most balanced and celebrated rosters in franchise history. Led by Willis Reed, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Earl Monroe, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley and Jerry Lucas, the team defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in five games to secure its second NBA championship.
