Why It Matters

Conservative lawmakers and pundits criticized Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show selection, with President Donald Trump calling the decision "absolutely ridiculous" and declaring himself "anti-them." Some critics have questioned whether Bad Bunny is American, despite the Puerto Rican artist being a U.S. citizen.

The event demonstrated significant audience interest in alternative entertainment programming during major sporting events. With more than 4.8 million YouTube viewers, Turning Point USA's show attracted substantial viewership, though it fell short of the official Super Bowl halftime show's expected 100 million viewers.

The performance also served as a tribute to the organization's late founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September.

What To Know

"It really is one of the best written songs I have heard in a long time and NOTHING is more powerful than a great song in my book!" Kid Rock wrote on X shortly after the event concluded.

The alternative halftime show featured performances by Lee Brice, Gabby Barrett, Brantley Gilbert, and Kid Rock, counterprogramming against the Super Bowl LX halftime show featuring Latin superstar Bad Bunny.

As Kid Rock wrapped up one of his songs, photos of Kirk, his wife Erika, and their children appeared on video boards surrounding the stage, with "In remembrance of Charlie Kirk" emblazoned across the images. The broadcast played one of Kirk's speeches during the tribute.

Brantley Gilbert opened the show wearing a "God, family country" T-shirt and declared, "This is real American." The event was streamed across Turning Point USA's digital platforms and partner channels including Real America's Voice and OAN.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and conservative host Megyn Kelly indicated on social media that they were proudly watching the event. The organization described the show as having "no agenda other than to celebrate faith, family and freedom."

Kid Rock teased during a Friday appearance on Fox & Friends that he would perform what he called "one of the greatest written songs," adding new elements to the track. The song he performed was Cody Johnson's "Til Ya Can't," which he announced would be released as a studio recording.
