Online trading markets are already wagering on what Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance will name their new baby after the couple announced this week that they are expecting.
Newsweek reached out to the vice president’s office for comment via email.
Why It Matters
The couple announced on Tuesday that they are expecting their fourth child and third son. Usha Vance will be the first second lady to give birth while her husband is office since the wife of Vice President Schuyler Colfax in 1870, Time magazine reported following the announcement.

What To Know
BetOnline has opened its markets to traders who are already betting on what the Vances could name their baby boy. It lists dozens of options, including names that could pay homage to prominent political figures, such as Donald for President Donald Trump, Charles or Charlie for the late activist Charlie Kirk, or Elon, for Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and a former Trump ally.
On Wednesday, the names Charlies or Charlie were the frontrunners at +2000, while either Donald or Don followed at +2200, according to BetOnline. That means somebody would win $2,000 for every $100 they bet if the couple ends up naming their child Charlie or Charles, or $2,200 if they end up naming the baby for Trump.

Christian placed third at +2500. Lincoln and either Peter or Pete followed at +2800 or +3000.
The least likely names were listed as options by the market were Vladimir, the same name as Russian President Putin, or Greenland, the autonomous Danish territory Trump has sought to acquire. Anyone who bets $100 on either of those would receive $50,000 if the baby is named either of those options.
The couple has not indicated what names they may pick for their son. In a statement on Tuesday, they wrote that they are “excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant” and that she and the baby are doing well.
“During this exciting and hectic time, we are particularly grateful for the military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children,” the statement reads.
The couple have three children: Ewan, 8, Vivek, 5, and Mirabel, 4.
What People Are Saying
Vice President JD Vance, on The Katie Miller Podcast in August 2025, about raising children in the spotlight: "If the kids have a total meltdown with all the cameras on, then it becomes a viral moment through no fault of their own. I mean, a 3-year-old is going to have a temper tantrum from time to time.”
Second lady Usha Vance, in an interview with Washingtonian in June 2025: “I love having three kids; I’m a huge proponent of it.”
Senator Jon Husted, an Ohio Republican, responded to the announcement in a post to X: “Congratulations! Children are an amazing gift. May mom and child be blessed with good health.”
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican, wrote to X: “Congratulations! Children are an amazing gift. May mom and child be blessed with good health.”
