Images described as 3D CAD rendering files for Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone have appeared online, offering an early look at what the company’s first folding smartphone could look like.
The images were shared by Sonny Dickson and appear to depict design schematics for a device widely referred to as the “iPhone Fold,” though the official name has yet to be released by Apple.
According to 9to5Mac, the renderings show details consistent with recent speculation about Apple’s plans to enter the foldable smartphone market.

Why It Matters
A foldable iPhone would represent one of Apple’s most significant hardware design changes in recent years.
Major smartphone makers have spent several product cycles refining foldable displays and hinge systems, but Apple is yet to release a device in the category.
What To Know
The files shared by Dickson appear to show the rear of the device as well as views of the phone when opened and closed.
The images suggest the device could feature a camera plateau resembling the design used in Apple’s iPhone Air models.
However, the foldable design shown in the renderings appears to include two rear cameras rather than a single lens. The change could hint at a hinge design robust enough to support more advanced imaging hardware without compromising durability.
The files also appear to show a distinctive shape where two corners of the device are rounded while the other two are squared off to accommodate the hinge mechanism.
Another rendering shows the layout of the device in its unfolded form. In that configuration, a small dot in the upper-left corner appears to represent the placement of a front-facing camera.
Additional images display the exterior sides of the device when both open and closed, revealing what looks like an external display visible when the phone is folded shut.
One previous leak suggested the foldable iPhone could have some creative solutions for usability concerns.
What Fans Noticed
Commenters on Reddit's r/Apple forum noticed similarities to another device.
"Am I crazy or is no one talking about the resemblance to the Microsoft Duo/Folio?" one user wondered, referencing Microsoft's Surface Duo device.
The Microsoft Surface Duo is a dual‑screen Android device designed to boost productivity by letting users run two apps side‑by‑side on separate hinged displays.
Another user continued the comparison: "It's insane how much of a grip Windows has on the market because I can't think of a single product of theirs in the last decade that was genuinely good and I still am forced to use a lot of their s*** for work."
A third contributor also mentioned the similarity: "Close enough! Welcome back, Surface Duo 2."
Finally, another commenter noted: "Same-ish concept. Executed better. Everyone said Microsoft was on the right track screen ratio-wise."
What’s Next
Apple recently discontinued several products while introducing some intriguing new ones, including a low-cost MacBook and a low-cost iPhone 17e.
Apple has not publicly confirmed plans for a foldable iPhone, but the device is expected by many to drop in September 2026.
Newsweek reached out to Dickson and Apple for comment via email.
