World’s Most Anticipated Vehicles of 2026: The EV That Fits Your Life

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is designed for drivers who want an EV that fits naturally into everyday life.
Paul Gipe had spent four decades studying and writing about the clean energy transition. As a renewable energy analyst and author, he will tell you there has never been a better time to own an electric car. When Chevrolet delivered his 2027 Bolt in February 2026, he approached it the same way he approaches everything: with data.
Within his first month, Gipe had logged more than 1,000 miles. What he found was his car consistently outperformed its specifications. The battery held nearly 70 kilowatt-hours of usable capacity, more than the advertised 65, and real-world range on a full charge regularly exceeded its 262 mile range EPA-rated estimate1.
The most telling test came on a drive from his home in Bakersfield to Los Angeles and back, roughly 220 miles of California highway. He drove down, had lunch with friends and made the return trip without stopping to charge once.

“We still got home with about a quarter of a charge left,” he said. “In the old days, we’d have to stop at the top of the Grapevine and charge for four hours just to go downhill to LA, then find a place to charge for another four hours on the other side. Those days are over.”
That reality is already here for a growing number of American drivers. More than 1.2 million new electric vehicles were sold in the United States through the first three quarters of 2025 alone, surpassing any prior full year, according to the International Council on Clean Transportation. That momentum is part of what brought the Bolt back. Discontinued in 2023 after its best sales year on record, the 2027 model returns as America's most affordable EV2.
The vehicle already drew attention ahead of its launch. Newsweek recently named the Bolt one of the World’s Most Anticipated New Vehicles for 2026, part of the publication’s annual editorial list recognizing vehicles expected to generate strong interest among drivers as they reach markets around North America.
“The Chevrolet Bolt is an EV designed to check key daily driver wants and needs boxes for eco-conscious car owners,” said Eileen Falkenberg-Hull, senior editor of Autos at Newsweek. “With its focus on comfort, ability to drive hands free with available Super Cruise driver assistance technology3 and long list of standard safety features4, the Bolt stands out from other vehicles, not just those that are electric, in 2026.”

Affordable Without Compromise
America’s most affordable EV2 makes a straightforward case: you do not have to spend more to get more. At a starting MSRP under $30,000, the Bolt undercuts comparable electric and gas-powered competitors while delivering the technology and range that mainstream drivers need.
Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet, said the Bolt was built around a simple promise. “Bolt is America’s most affordable EV2, and still delivers outsized value with improved range, charging speed, safety, and tech. Bolt joins Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV to make Chevy the No. 2 EV brand in the U.S., and give customers a vehicle for every lifestyle and need.”
The numbers back that up. With an EPA-estimated 262 miles of range, public DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in 25 minutes6, and peak charging speed of up to 150 kW+, more than 2.5 times as fast as the previous generation. The Bolt is built for drivers who want to spend less time planning around their battery and more time on the road.

At home, it supports both standard, 120V outlets and available Level 2 charging7, so owners can start each day with a full charge6. Owners can also combine the Bolt with a GM Energy V2H Bundle to handle a blackout. This advanced system allows the Bolt to store energy and, when needed, supply electricity back to a properly equipped home during an outage8. On the road, its native NACS charging port paired with the myChevrolet mobile app9 opens access to more public DC fast charging locations10. Inside, Google built-in puts Google Maps, Google Assistant11 and smart route planning on the screen, alongside more than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features4.
Built for the Way You Already Drive
The day the 2027 Bolt became available, Gipe traded in his 2020 model to get one. For someone who has been driving electric since 2014, it was an easy call.
Most drivers are not there yet. Sixteen percent of U.S. adults say they are likely to purchase an EV as their next car, according to a recent survey, with purchase price, charging access and range anxiety cited as the biggest holdbacks. The Bolt was built with exactly those concerns in mind.

“For first-time EV drivers, the Bolt is designed to remove uncertainty from the experience,” said Megan Liebrock, Assistant Marketing Manager, Chevrolet. “It’s easy to understand, easy to live with, and easy to trust. Drivers don’t need to relearn how to drive or rethink their daily habits; the Bolt fits naturally into routines they already have.”
That ease starts before you even get in the car. For drivers who want hands-free highway capability, Super Cruise driver assistance technology is available on select Bolt configurations, making it the most affordable vehicle in America to offer it12.
What the Data Shows
One month after taking delivery, Gipe is still discovering everything the updated interface has to offer. He is also still tracking every charge cycle. What the data shows, he says, is a car that delivers on its promises and then exceeds them.
That kind of real-world performance is part of what makes the Bolt's return significant. The car that wins over the next wave of EV buyers may simply be the one that fits their life, costs less than expected and delivers more than it promised.
Gipe does not hesitate when asked whether someone on the fence should buy one.
“There is no better time than right now to own a Chevy Bolt,” he said. “Once people do it, they are not going back. It’s more fun driving an EV. Simply do it.”
