I have nothing to write about except my thoughts and impressions about coming back to the United States. First we saw impolite people, then many overweight people, then just plain old dumb people. For instance, a large man at IHOP sat down next to us and put his portable Disneyland fan on his table and started reading the Times. Now, in Sri Lanka, you'd die of a heat stroke before you'd do that. Then we walked by a few cafes and passed a Burger King and a McDonalds that were packed. Orcas Island, where we are now, is a lovely island that is part of the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington state.
We are in a small house that my grandmother just inherited. We go over to Mrs. Ketcham's a lot to get the crab net and swim. At home we garden, work on boats, and use the computer. It's a tradition to make and sail a boat and make S'mores every time we go to Orcas. I don't know why. It just is. Tonight we are going over the Mrs. Ketcham's for dinner. I'm now building a driftwood boat because my last one was taken by the tide. We rent one movie every night to catch up, and we have hamburgers and S'mores a lot on the beach.
We've spent a week at Orcas now, so that means the day after tomorrow we go home. This trip is the best, most adventurous thing that I or anyone in the family has ever done. I'm a little reluctant to go back home, but I mostly do want to go.
