At the "Today" show, it's anchors away - again. Last week NBC announced that cohost Deborah Norville, who came on board 15 months ago to take Jane Pauley's seat, had been replaced by Katie Couric. Already the show's national correspondent, Couric, 34, has been filling in for Norville, who is on maternity leave. Norville says it was her decision not to return: "I would like to take the next year to spend time with my family." But NBC probably isn't too upset: during her tenure, ratings plunged. With Couric at the helm, they've started to rise again.

Norville's position was precarious from the start: she was perceived as the ambitious "younger woman" ousting the popular Pauley. Recently she caused a mild flap by posing in People magazine breast-feeding her 3-week-old son, Niki. Though Couric isn't worried about being cast in the same light - "the circumstances are different," she says - she has one thing in common with her predecessor. She's pregnant and is taking leave in July. No word yet on who will replace her.
