If it's new year's, the celebs are in the Rockies. But where? This season, Princess Diana led a major glitz shift from flashy Aspen to normally low-key Vail. Leaving Princes William and Harry behind with Charles, she made no attempt to hat-and-goggle herself from paparazzi on the slopes and no secret of staying with friends at printing mogul Mike Flannery's $4.1 million home. Flannery hired his own golf pro to be Diana's ski pro, and dined with her and six other friends at Pepi's restaurant the night she arrived.
Meanwhile, in Aspen, with 50-degree weather, little new snow and no Di, things were so slow you could get a room at the Ritz-Carlton the week after Christmas. The celeb vacuum was filled by standbys like Robert Wagner, Jill St. John and Regis Philbin. Was that Kate Moss or a look-alike? Either way, she looked out of place among the wilting perennials.
The year wouldn't be complete, however, without murmurs of Donald Trump seeking to buy something utterly unaffordable: this time, it happened to be Telluride. While the kids were on the slopes, The Donald was reportedly negotiating to purchase the town's ski operation. Is Telluride really ready for the Taj?
