Golden State is at risk of recording three consecutive defeats for the second time in barely two weeks when it makes the cross-country trip to take on Cleveland at the Rocket Center on Saturday. And the Warriors’ prospects look somewhat bleak given the recent history between these two franchises, with the Cavs coming out on top in the last four consecutive encounters.

Thursday’s 99-98 loss to Philadelphia was a particularly bitter pill to swallow, not that the 76ers didn’t work for their last-second win in the closing stages. Rookie VJ Edgecombe fired in a go-ahead shot with 0.9 seconds left on the board before Tyrese Maxey made it back in time to deliver a game-saving block on De’Anthony Melton.

One can look at that result in one of two ways: the Warriors were once again missing several key players, with Steph Curry out for the third straight game (his seventh absence this season) and Jimmy Butler sidelined after an injury against Oklahoma City two days prior. On the downside, those same absences threaten to hamper Golden State’s chances once more in Cleveland.

To add insult to injury, Draymond Green limped to the locker room in the second quarter with a foot injury and was later seen in a protective boot, suggesting he’ll have no involvement this weekend. The Cavs don’t have nearly the same issues by comparison as they look to shut out the Warriors for a third straight season.
