Carolina goalie Pyotr Kochetkov had surgery on Monday to address a lingering lower-body injury and is likely out for the season after being placed on injured reserve. Jackson Blake’s power-play goal with 13 seconds left in overtime on Monday night lifted the Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the visiting New York Rangers. Sebastian Aho added a goal and an assist, and Jordan Martinook tied the game at the 9:11 mark of the third period.

The Penguins acquired 24-year-old forward Yegor Chinakhov from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, sending forward Danton Heinon and a pair of draft picks in exchange. Chinakhov had three goals and six points in 29 games with Columbus. The trade came a day after Justin Brazeau notched his first career hat trick in Pittsburgh’s 7-3 road rout of the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night. Bryan Rust scored twice in the win, Anthony Mantha had a goal and an assist, and Noel Acciari lit the lamp as well. The Penguins led 4-0 after one period and have won two of three after an eight-game losing streak.

With Seth Jarvis still out, Aho leads Carolina with 14 goals and 35 points, while Blake has 12 goals. Brandon Bussi is 13-1-1 in 15 starts with a shutout, a .911 save percentage, and an NHL-best 2.08 goals against average. Sidney Crosby leads the Penguins with 20 goals and 39 points, while Rust has 15 markers. In 17 starts, Arturs Silovs is 6-5-6 with a shutout, an .886 save percentage, and 3.21 GAA.
