The Honda Passport is set for a 2026 model year generational redo with more off-roading prowess on tap. The automaker confirmed new details about the sport utility vehicle (SUV) today, including which engine will be under the hood.

Passport will build on the lineage and engineering of the Honda Pilot three-row SUV, coming to market as the "most adventure-ready and capable Honda SUV ever" according to the company.

Its body has been revealed, in camouflage photos provided by the company, as boxier than the previous generation, with design parallels with the current-generation Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Land Cruiser apt.

Powering the 2026 Passport will be Honda's next-generation, more powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine. The power plant is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The current-generation 2025 Honda Passport is powered by the last-generation 3.5-liter V6, giving drivers access to 280 horsepower. It has a 5,000-pound towing capacity.

Full power figures for the SUV will be revealed at a later date. Honda today states that the powertrain is capable of generating proper motivation for its "best-in-class torque vectoring" all-wheel drive system.

The Passport TrailSport, the most off-road capable of the trim level lineup will feature all-wheel drive as standard equipment. That system has been tested on the red rocks of Moab, sand dunes of western Michigan and muddy trails of Appalachia.

Honda has installed three terrain modes in the current-generation Passport: Mud, Sand and Snow. The 2025 Honda Pilot comes with seven total drive modes: Normal, Econ, Snow, Tow, Sport, Trail and Sand.

The new Passport TrailSport is likely to take design and features nods from the current Pilot, especially the Passport TrailSport.

For the 2025 model year, the Pilot TrailSport comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, skid plates, roof rails, all-terrain tires, an integrated trailer hitch, LED headlights and fog lights, seats covered in synthetic leather, automatic climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 9-inch central infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone charger, multi-view camera with TrailWatch technology and a host of safety and driver assistance technologies As standard.

The 2026 Honda Passport will be revealed later this autumn and arrive in dealerships nationwide in early 2025.

When it gets to dealer lots, it will be slotted between the two-row Honda CR-V and Pilot in size.

In addition to the Santa Fe, Passport is likely to compete against the Chevrolet Blazer, Mazda CX-70 and Nissan Murano for eyes, though those models do not come ready for off-roading. It's most like the Ford Explorer and Toyota 4Runner. Both the Ford and Toyota enter new generations around the same time as the Passport.

The rugged midsize 2025 Honda Passport is currently on sale and starts just over $42,000.
