A 7-year-old in Brooklyn, New York, has left internet users in hysterics after combining a simple homework assignment with a throwback hit from 2009.

Summer Toson (@sumzt) posted a clip on TikTok of her little sister, Malak, working through her weekly vocabulary homework.

“She is usually given a list of words that she needs to create her own sentences for her homework,” Summer, 25, told Newsweek.

The assignment was straightforward: use each word from her list in a complete sentence. But when she reached the word "down," she really thought outside the box.

Instead of writing a standard sentence, Malak picked up her pencil and confidently scrawled out the chorus of Jay Sean’s chart-topping single “Down” with the lyrics “Baby are you down down down down down.”

Summer, filming her sister at the table, can be heard in the background prompting her to keep going. “There’s one more down. Baby are you down. There’s two more… down, down, down.”

Summer said the musical reference came as no surprise. With a 20-year age gap between them—they also have an older sister, 26-year-old Engie—Malak has been exposed to the playlists of her older siblings.

“Since we have such a big age gap, she's heard me and my friends play certain songs such as ‘Down.' You'd be quite surprised she knows a bunch of older music!” Summer said.

For Summer, who many mistake for Malak’s mom, said the moment was both hilarious and heartwarming. “I immediately died of laughter. That’s all there was to it,” she said.

Summer’s clip has been viewed more than 957,000 times and received over 194,000 likes.

Hundreds of users applauded Malak for her music knowledge, claiming she should get “extra credit.”

“Teaching the important things in life,” the official account for Eggo wrote.

“As a teacher this would send me into orbit,” another laughed.

A third user said, “Oh, she’s cultured.”

Singer Jay Sean himself even commented on the clip, writing, “Better have got an A+ for that.”

“The moment she clicked it was in fact two more,” another said.

Malak’s playful spirit, Summer added, is just part of who she is. “She's a character for sure,” she said. “She's extremely outgoing and bubbly, loves music, dancing and just gets along with everybody.”
