A regular wellness exam turned into a heart-wrenching moment for an Alabama mom this week.
Nahyun Barbuto shared how her daughter, Emory, was asked by the nurse whether she wanted a baby brother or sister.
Barbuto was not prepared for her daughter's response: "I want another baby brother because he passed away and is taking too long to come home."

Hearing this made the 31-year-old choke up after Emory's baby brother, Carson, passed away at just 11 weeks from pneumonia.
Barbuto (who is known as @liftingmotherhood on Instagram) told Newsweek that Emory (Emi) brings her brother up frequently: "Most days, she talks about how cute he was; how little he was; how she misses him, and that she wishes he was here with us. Those are days that bring me joy because she verbalizes that she remembers him by the things she says about Carson."
In her reel, which has been viewed 487,000 times so far, Barbuto explained in her caption that the reminders are not always comforting. "There are days where when Emi brings Carson up, it brings me joy. And then there are days like today when she says things that tear me up," she wrote.
She told Newsweek that there are days when Emi will mention Carson and it will break her heart.
"Her explaining that her baby brother passed away and is taking too long to come home made me feel not only hurt for her, but I felt so much guilt that my 4-year-old is having to go through life knowing what death is at such a young age.
"I struggle enough as an adult and a mother navigating life after losing one of my children but hearing my 4-year-old talk about her baby brother's death is truly heart-breaking," Barbuto said.
The comments section of Barbuto's reel was filled with other social media users sending their condolences.
Others who had also been through child loss shared their experiences. "My boys lost their sister three years ago and they really keep her memory alive which your right is sometimes so beautiful but other times hard," one user wrote.
Many also assumed that Carson's death was caused by SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) because he was 11 weeks old, but Barbuto clarified that an autopsy report confirmed that Carson passed away from pneumonia.
"I go over his last day here with us on my YouTube channel along with the time of events from when he was first hospitalized to the day we got discharged, and his follow-up appointment nine days prior to his death," she added.
Barbuto reported an overwhelming amount of love and support on her reel, and was thankful for the online community.
"The silver lining in all of this has been bringing our family close to God in complete desperation after losing our child," she told Newsweek.
It's also helped her to teach and comfort Emi that her baby brother is in heaven with Jesus, and they'll all be reunited one day, Barbuto added.
