Forza Horizon 4 has officially been announced, and it's to release Oct. 2 on Xbox One and PC with special enhancements for Xbox One X, As has been popularly rumored, the fourth installment takes racers to Britain for some open-world, high-speed action. Like its predecessors, Forza Horizon 4 is in development at Playground Games.

While the base driving mechanics of Forza Horizon 4 remain the same, its new features include dynamic seasons, quick chat and seamless co-op. In winter, lakes freeze and trees die to change conditions. World Events also group players to specific missions.

In related news, Microsoft has officially announced the full acquisition of Playground Games as a first-party studio. That means Forza Horizon 4 and any other titles the studio decides to make, will likely remain exclusive to PC and Xbox One. While Playground had been operating independently since 2010, it's primarily developed Forza Horizon titles on an alternating schedule with Turn 10's Forza Motorsport series. Microsoft also acquired Undead Labs, Ninja Theory and Compulsion Games.

Forza Horizon 4 comes to Xbox One and PC Oct. 2.
