Fortnite update 1.53 has arrived on PS4, but the 10GB patch doesn't do much. In a tweet Tuesday evening Epic Games said the download "fix[es] a crash that was occurring." The developer has also acknowledged the large file size for the hotfix, saying it was "unexpected" and something they'll be looking into in the future. While the tweak won't require any official downtime, getting all 10GB of data will take you offline for a bit anyway.

This news arrives just hours after the makers of ARK: Survival Evolved posted a PS4 update file that was also larger than expected. While the occurrence might be a coincidence, it sounds like it might be a problem with Sony, which may have encountered a bug or changed something about how its patches are distributed. As Fortnite players will know, though, having to download small fixes before substantial updates is par for the course. It's only 1.53's file size that seems out of whack.

The update has gone live just ahead of the assumed major 3.5 update that will add Vending Machines to Battle Royale. Thanks to data mines from reddit's maxt123456, we also know its Week 7 Battle Pass Challenges include finding Gnomes in named locations and following a Treasure Map in Retail Row. A release date for the patch has not been revealed at this time, but we'll have guides for those challenges as soon as they're available.

Fortnite is in early access across PS4, Xbox One, PC and iOS. The 1.53 update is exclusive to PS4, and it fixes a PS4-specific crash.

Were you surprised that Fortnite's 1.53 update was so large? Are you excited to see what Vending Machines bring to Battle Royale? Tell us in the comments section!
