Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro has left Brazil for the United States after losing Sunday’s presidential election and failing to comply with a Supreme Court order to surrender his passports, according to reports from Reuters and CNN Brasil.
Reuters reported, citing two sources, that Bolsonaro had left the country for the U.S., while CNN Brasil reported that his whereabouts were unknown after he failed to turn over his passports Tuesday. A source close to Bolsonaro told CNN Brasil that the senator was flying to the United States, although it remained unclear how he left Brazil or where in the U.S. he was headed.
His departure comes after President Donald Trump called Bolsonaro’s election defeat “rigged.”
