Thousands of cases of popular salad dressings, including select Hidden Valley products, have been recalled across 27 states after manufacturers and the Food and Drug Administration found that certain batches may contain foreign objects.

The recall, led by California-based Ventura Foods, was classified as a Class II by the FDA, indicating that the products may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, though the risk of serious adverse consequences is considered remote. A representative for Hidden Valley Ranch told Newsweek that the recall was for "a professional one-gallon buttermilk dressing made by Ventura Foods for foodservice use only—and that product was never distributed."

Newsweek reached out to Ventura Foods for comment through its online portal on Wednesday.

What To Know

Ventura Foods initiated the recall on November 6, 2025, after discovering “black plastic planting material” in the granulated onion used in several types of salad dressings distributed to major retailers and food courts, including Costco and Publix.

According to the FDA’s enforcement report, 3,556 cases were affected.

Which Salad Dressings Were Impacted by the Recall?

Where Were the Salad Dressings Sold?

The dressings were distributed to at least seven retail customers, including Costco and Publix. While the complete list of retailers was not published, it is confirmed that both store shelves and food court/service locations in the states listed above received the affected items.

Representatives for Hidden Valley Ranch told Newsweek, “No Hidden Valley Ranch products sold in stores to consumers are included in the voluntary recall. A professional Hidden Valley® Original Buttermilk Ranch Dressing & Dip (one-gallon size), intended solely for food service and that was never distributed, was listed in a voluntary recall initiated by Ventura Foods, a third-party partner that manufactures this product.”

What Happens Next

Consumers in the 27 affected states should check their salad dressings and relevant food products for matches with the SKU numbers and lot codes listed in the recall. Any affected products should be returned to the original point of purchase for a refund.
