The New York Yankees took on the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of their wild card series. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was not a starter, and the Yankees lost 3-1.
After the game, Chisholm spoke to the media about being on the bench. He answered questions with his back turned in a mild tone, according to a video posted by SNY on X. Chisholm noted he was upset watching his team lose from the bench in another clip posted by SNY on X. His interaction with the media has gone viral and has led to some controversy about what lies ahead.
Chisholm had a 30-30 season, becoming the third player in franchise history to do so. Aaron Boone decided to play matchups against Garrett Crochet and left one of his best players out of the starting lineup. Chisholm had a case to be upset, but also noted the team needs to do whatever it takes to win, albeit he was still unhappy. However, one former Yankee felt his actions postgame were warranted.

"I'm not even mad at Jazz. … He should be pissed," former Yankees outfielder Cameron Maybin wrote in response to a video of Jazz speaking to reporters with his back turned on X. "The man just had a 30-30 season and then (to be) treated like a platoon player is unacceptable."
Crochet dominated the Yankees, and Amed Rosario, who started at second base, went hitless in the game. Chisholm did eventually get into the game, but had just one at-bat.
The Yankees now face elimination. Carlos Rodón will be on the mound for the Yankees while Brayan Bello takes the ball for the Red Sox.
