As TikTok users prepare for a potential ban across the United States, millions of users and creators are looking for ways to preserve content and connections.
The ban, set to take effect on January 19, is part of a broad federal push over concerns about user data privacy and national security due to TikTok's ties to China-based ByteDance.
Unless the Supreme Court intervenes or a buyer emerges to acquire TikTok's U.S. operations, the app could be removed from app stores and become inaccessible.

Here are a few ways TikTok users can keep up with their favorite creators and avoid losing their content.

...
Back Up Your Favorite Content
For both creators and viewers, saving the videos you don't want to lose should be a priority.
TikTok offers a "Save Video" option for some posts. If a video isn't downloadable, apps like SnapTik allow users to save videos without the TikTok watermark.
Downloading any created content, including drafts, ensures that a user's projects remain intact and preserves any videos that a viewer would hate to lose.
Preserve Your Following List
TikTok user @madihearts, in a viral video with more than 270,000 views in three days, noted the importance of keeping track of your favorite creators.
"Go ahead and screenshot or screen record your entire following list," she said in the video.
She added that it's a good idea to jot down the names of creators you watch frequently, but haven't officially followed.
Keeping record of your following list can help make sure that if you want to maintain a connection to a creator, you can follow them across platforms to sites like YouTube or Instagram, where many of them are likely cross-posting.
"Go support creators on the long-form YouTube content page," @madihearts said, adding, "This is a rough time for us."
Save Key Data and DMs
Downloading your TikTok data is an important way to keep important information such as saved videos, comments and account settings.
In the app, navigate to "Settings and Privacy," select "Download your data," and follow the prompts.
While waiting for the file to process, manually record essential details from saved videos or direct messages.
Finally, make sure to exchange contact information with online friends to make sure you stay can connected if TikTok disappears.
Explore Alternatives
If TikTok shuts down, apps like Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Triller offer similar functionalities.
Other users are turning to emerging platforms such as RedNote, which has gained traction in app stores, and Lemon8, which is also owned by TikTok's parent company ByteDance.
These platforms provide new spaces for creators and viewers to reconnect.
The Future
The future of TikTok is uncertain, but being prepared can ease the transition.
By saving content, maintaining connections and supporting creators elsewhere, users may be able to navigate the potential ban without losing their favorite parts of the platform.
