What Is The Shape Store?

The Shape Store is one such retro found footage video from The Infinite Archive, which has gone massively viral online, spreading to multiple sites including X and Reddit.

Posted by The Infinite Archive in March 2026, it depicts a fictional grand opening of The Shape Store, which is filled with colorful shapes, and shows people exploring inside. It has a surreal, nostalgic atmosphere, and is made to look as if this is a real recording of a normal event.

AI-generated people explore The Shape Store, going on carnival rides and playing games, as things randomly explode and customers speak to the camera in a documentarylike fashion.

The videos are also shared to TikTok under the username @a.i.solation, and even a retro-looking website purporting to sell items from The Shape Store exists.

Because the AI creator didn't share the inspiration or story behind the bizarre video, internet users have come up with their own accounts of what The Shape Store is trying to say, as it blended analogue horror with a documentary tone.

What Does The Shape Store Mean?

Because The Infinite Archive and creator @viczinner haven't shared what The Shape Store is about, online commentators have been sharing their own thoughts, and in some cases, it has led to arguments.

X user @TheDavidPiv called it "the most devastating and iconic work of conceptual art in decades" and "the actual truth."

User @antipode_elliot argued that, despite being AI-created, it was "incontestably art. Provocative, unnerving, bleakly comic, both cerebral and visceral."

Some users analyzed it through a racial and sociological lens, noting that the people in the video are Black, and some argued the imagery was racist, or that viewing it through these lenses is racist.

And others argued there was no meaning, and it is human nature to try to project meaning on things, even if there was no intended meaning.

The discourse amplified the video's reach, and, as time has gone on, The Shape Store has become a major online meme, with many responses to it steeped in satire.

Since then, The Infinite Archive has posted several other AI videos of The Shape Store.
