One of the most successful video game adaptations is moving forward with a third season. It has been announced that "Twisted Metal" will return to Peacock, but the renewal for the show comes with a major catch.

Nobody quite expected "Twisted Metal" to be as well-received as it has been, but the adaptation of one of the most beloved video game franchises in history rocketed to a huge audience reaction, as the first season has a current 93 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critic approval rating is only 67 percent, but that number jumped up in a big way when the second season was released. Season 2 has a 92 percent critic rating and 84 percent audience rating, giving the series an overall two-season rating of 79 for critics and 89 for audiences.
Simply put, "Twisted Metal" has been a success among critics and fans, and it is not at all shocking that the streamer has renewed the video game adaptation.
Despite the excitement of a new season forthcoming, there is a major caveat to the show returning is there will be a new showrunner. Original showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith has exited the series, and he has now been replaced by David Reed, per Deadline.

Reed's involvement as showrunner and executive producer might excite fans even more, as he made a name with "The Boys" and "Supernatural."
There is a worry, as when a new showrunner comes in, things can often be directed in a way that kills the series. However, Reed has plenty of experience and has been behind some of the most beloved sci-fi and superhero properties.
"Twisted Metal" follows John Doe (Anthony Mackie), a man who is promised a better life to be a courier across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The series has certainly evolved over two seasons, as John and his compatriot Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) have now realized they are in the Twisted Metal tournament, and have to take on fan-favorite characters like Sweet Tooth, Dollface, Calypso, and Mr. Grimm.
The series renewal could point to the series beginning filming at some point early next year, which would likely place "Twisted Metal" season 3 releasing early 2027.
