Travis Kelce has found himself at the center of renewed political speculation after being spotted chatting with President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, at a Florida golf event this week.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 36, was attending a TGL golf match at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens on March 3 when a video circulating online showed him in a brief conversation with Kai, an 18‑year‑old amateur golfer and the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump. The interaction appeared casual, with the pair smiling and chatting as cameras rolled, though it was unclear what they discussed.
While the moment itself was fleeting, it quickly ignited debate on social media, with some users questioning Kelce’s political alignment and reviving claims that he may secretly lean MAGA.

"He worships them," shared Ciara on Threads, who publicly opposes Donald Trump in her online bio. Newsweek reached out to representatives for Kai Trump and Travis Kelce for comment via email.

However, many users were quick to push back, arguing that the interaction between the golfer and Taylor Swift's fiancé was being overinterpreted.
"Travis Kelce generally maintains a neutral, non-partisan public stance, focusing on sports, occasionally supporting progressive causes. He has drawn criticism from conservatives for appearing 'liberal ads,' yet he also offered a diplomatic welcome to Trump at the 2025 Super Bowl," shared a user called Mombity at Large on X, who supports the Democrats.
"How is this newsworthy? They were both at the same event and walked past each other. That’s f****** it," said Jane Langdon, also a Democrat.
Others dismissed that connection as irrelevant, noting that attending the same event and exchanging pleasantries does not equate to political endorsement.
What Do Know About Travis Kelce’s Politics?
Despite frequent speculation, Kelce has never publicly endorsed a political party or candidate. According to records reviewed by Newsweek, his voter registration lists no declared party affiliation.
That said, Kelce has previously drawn backlash from conservative commentators. In 2023, he appeared in a Pfizer public health campaign encouraging COVID‑19 and flu vaccinations, which led some right‑wing figures to mock him as “Mr. Pfizer.” Kelce responded at the time by saying he stood by the campaign and believed in promoting public health.
He has also spoken positively about social causes, supported LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports, and taken part in culturally progressive media appearances, all of which have contributed to assumptions that he leans left politically.
Still, Kelce has largely avoided direct political commentary, repeatedly declining to label himself publicly.
Taylor Swift’s Political Stance Seems Clearer
Swift, by contrast, has been more explicit about her political views in recent years. After remaining outwardly apolitical early in her career, she began publicly endorsing Democratic candidates in 2018 and has since encouraged voter registration and turnout through her social media platforms.
She endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and later backed Kamala Harris during the 2024 race.
Trump has publicly spoken disparagingly of Swift: After she endorsed Harris, Trump said in an interview with Fox & Friends, "She's a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she'll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."
Days later, Trump escalated his comments, posting on Truth Social, "I hate Taylor Swift."
