Zootopia 2 is now available to stream on Disney+, and to celebrate its release, we've got an exclusive clip from the cast. The hit Disney animated film broke box office records last year and is a major contender to win the Best Animated Film Oscar this Sunday at the Academy Awards.
In this exclusive clip, the cast shares their go-to essential movie snack to eat at home, and it turns out this group of Hollywood stars is, refreshingly, not so different from the rest of us.
Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Judy Hopps, says that at home, it's all about popcorn. But not microwave popcorn, only because "our microwave really doesn't work." Fortune Feimster, who plays Nibbles Maplestick, is also into popcorn, but she says "you gotta throw in a little sweet with it too," adding M&Ms to her popcorn. (Honestly, that sounds incredible.)

"I'm very particular about the blend between salty and sweet," Jason Bateman (Nick Wilde) said. Because of this, he keeps the salty separated from the sweet: "[You need] two different buckets, instead of merging." A man of principle. Meanwhile, Ke Huy Quan, who plays Gary De'Snake, forgoes the popcorn debate entirely and goes straight for ice cream. "I love a bowl of ice cream," he says.
It's a fittingly playful clip for a film that has, at its core, a deep and genuine love of movies. Zootopia 2 is loaded with film references, from a riff on The Godfather to nods to The Shining and even The Silence of the Lambs, and director Byron Howard says that's very much by design.
"We're all film nerds," Howard told Newsweek. "We grew up loving films. I think a lot of us learned a lot of who we aspire to be from movies, from characters that we love, from decisions that I saw being made by these characters on screen." Howard's own cinematic education was broad: his father took him to see Akira Kurosawa films alongside Superman and Indiana Jones. "The history of visual storytelling is something that we take very seriously," he said.

For producer Yvett Merino, that love of film is part of what makes working on Zootopia 2 feel like a privilege. "I truly believe movies find you where you need to be," she told Newsweek. "I'll see a movie at one point in my life and it'll mean something. And that's what I love about these films: you can go back to it and it will take on a completely different meaning because of the experiences you've had in your life."
That layered quality is something Howard says is intentional. The film's many references are designed to land for all audiences. "With the adult audience, you'll hear the adults laugh first because they get the reference, and then the kids are like, what is that movie?" he said, specifically recalling the Shining parody. "And you're like, you're too young, not seeing this movie yet, but they will know when they watch it in ten years after they've seen The Shining."
It's that kind of generational conversation, the same one Zootopia, Frozen, Coco and others have sparked, that makes animated films a unique vehicle for storytelling. "You bring your world into it and you're receiving the story in that moment in time," Merino said. "When you come back years later, you're a different person. So I think these movies can continue to connect people in different ways."
