The Nintendo Switch is one of the best-selling and most popular video game consoles of all time, beloved for its portability and classic Nintendo charm.
On top of that, the Switch is home to some of the best games of the past decade, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and so many more.

Naturally, fans have been wondering when we'll finally get an announcement for the Switch's successor, preemptively referred to as the Nintendo Switch 2.
Well, it looks like that announcement may be coming within the week.
...
Recently, Walmart Canada Gaming shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) with a picture of Mario peering around a curtain with the comment, "Hey, Mario," followed a hand waving emoji.
While this may seem like a simple tribute to the most well-known video game character of all-time, there could be a lot more to it.
Fans and experts quickly took note that the image is the same image that Nintendo shared over eight years ago when they shared the preview trailer for the "NX," which was the original codename for the Nintendo Switch.
This coincides with multiple other reports regarding a release date announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Sources for both Eurogamer and VGC have suggested that Nintendo will likely make an announcement this week.

Shortly before Walmart Gaming Canada made the post, Nate the Hate released a video specifically stating that Nintendo will release a reveal trailer for this Thursday, Jan. 16.
"I can share with you that Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week," Nate the Hate said. "I have been told Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16... just a few days from now."
Nate the Hate also provided details on what the announcement could entail.
"I've heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus."
Now, the only party fans are really waiting for is Nintendo itself.
