Nintendo has released a new trailer for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” a sequel to the hit 2023 animated film “The Super Mario Bros. Movie" that's in production at Warner Bros.' Illumination.

The new trailer opens on Mario and Luigi speeding through the desert on motorbikes, before arriving in the Sand Kingdom, first seen in “Super Mario Odyssey.” The two are pointed towards the region’s inverted pyramid, where they enter, power up with fire flowers, and ultimately discover the green dinosaur Yoshi hiding inside a warp pipe.

Yoshi first made an appearance in the “Super Mario World” video game, where he acted as a mount for Mario and Luigi. His appearance in the film universe was teased in a mid-credits scene in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” where his signature green and white egg was prominently featured on-screen.

Also seen in the trailer were a number of Super Mario mainstays, including Birdo, the frog suit powerup, Lakitu, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, and a tyrannosaurus rex, which also prominently featured in “Super Mario Odyssey.”

Fans noted that, unlike past trailers for the film, this trailer had very few elements from the film’s namesake, “Super Mario Galaxy.” Instead, the trailer features other prominent parts of Mario’s history, with references to multiple games and subseries within the franchise.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” was also announced to have been brought forward by two days, with the film now set to be released in theaters in the US on April 1, rather than the previously announced April 3.
