Move over, classic Hollywood pairings—there’s a new "bestie alert" echoing through the hills of the awards circuit. Teyana Taylor and Jessie Buckley have officially entered their friendship era, and honestly? We’re obsessed.
Now that both have secured 2026 Oscar nods—Taylor for her supporting turn in One Battle After Another and Buckley for her lead role in Hamnet—this mutual admiration society is hitting its peak. Taylor recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the very first thing they did after the nominations dropped was hop on FaceTime to scream in unison.

“[She] texted me, and we got on FaceTime,” Taylor said. “We were both just screaming. She’s like, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ I’m like, ‘I’m so proud of you.’”
On paper, the pairing might feel like a "random generator" result, but the DNA of their careers is surprisingly similar. Long before they were Academy favorites, both were grinding in the music industry. Taylor was a teenage prodigy, signing to Pharrell’s Star Trak at 15 and famously choreographing Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm” before her Kanye West GOOD Music era.
Buckley, meanwhile, has a past that is pure theater-kid gold: She rose to fame on the BBC reality competition I’d Do Anything. If you haven’t YouTubed her 2008 performances yet, do yourself a favor and fall down that rabbit hole immediately. She took second place, used it as a springboard to RADA, and never looked back.
Ultimately, this friendship is a celebration of the "un-boxable" artist. As Taylor put it, her journey to the Oscars happened because she refused to stay in one lane. “I bet on myself in a time where nobody could believe that a person can be in more than one box,” she told THR. “I feel like we all should give ourselves more grace.”
Whether they’re swapping skincare tips or singing show tunes, we’ll be watching for this legendary kiki when the Oscars air on ABC this March 15. Make sure you're subscribed to the Parting Shot Podcast and the For the Culture newsletter for all the twists and turns this award season.
