Electronic Arts (EA) has removed a user-created upload from The Sims 4 online Gallery after players flagged content that appeared to depict disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein alongside child characters.

The controversial upload, which circulated widely on Reddit, prompted backlash from players who said the imagery was deeply inappropriate. EA later confirmed the content had been taken down, describing it as "wholly unacceptable."

Newsweek reached out to EA via email for comment.

Why It Matters

The incident has prompted scrutiny of content moderation on The Sims 4 Gallery, a feature that allows players to share custom households, characters and builds with the wider community. While the platform is moderated, players online have raised concerns about harmful or offensive content slipping through automated systems.

The Sims 4 game is generally rated T for Teen by the ESRB (13+) and PEGI 12 in Europe. The Gallery feature requires online access.

The appearance of an upload referencing Epstein—who was first convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor before multiple women later alleged they were trafficked for sex by him and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell—struck a particular nerve within the community.

What To Know

The upload was highlighted in a Reddit post by user u/Odysseusford, who drew attention to a household titled "NPC Children Townies." The household featured seven child Sims dressed in bathrobes and towels, alongside a character resembling Epstein.

On Reddit, The Sims 4 fans shared their upset at seeing the Gallery upload. "This is just disgusting," said one commenter, while another wrote: "Damn…That’s one of the most evil things I’ve ever seen."

"There has been downloads which is a bit concerning," another Reddit user wrote. "This looks like something an unsupervised kid would make to me. I really hope it was just an unsupervised kid who needs to be spoken to after hearing too much unsupervised news rather than an adult creating some weird fantasy," said one response.

An EA spokesperson later told gaming site Kotaku that the upload violated the company’s standards, stating: "This content is wholly unacceptable, and our team has removed it."

While the upload noted in the post on Reddit has since been removed by EA, other Epstein-themed uploads are still available on the site, including one featuring characters that look like Epstein and Maxwell with the caption: "They're great with kids."

What Happens Next

After the post on Reddit gained traction, user Mindy_SimsCommunity, who appears to be a community manager for the game, said on Reddit: "Hey folks, Mindy from The Sims community team. I wanted to make sure I commented here to say this content is wholly unacceptable and our team has removed it.

"If we detect content that violates our User Agreement and Positive Play Charter, we may take a number of enforcement actions, including removing the content and the player’s access to certain or all EA Services," the post said. Players were urged to flag inappropriate material directly within the Gallery to help moderation efforts.
