A new image has leaked of David Corenswet as Superman in the upcoming DCU film, and as usual, fans seem split right down the middle in terms of whether or not it's making them more confident about the upcoming movie. Some say it just makes them more excited, while others have nothing but ugly things to say about it.

The image appears to be part of a tag attached to promotional merchandise for the film. We see Corenswet from the trunks up, and the image is clearly touched up digitally. Still, at this point, it's one of the only images we have of Corenswet as Superman from the front, without burns or blood, and with Corenswet stationary.

Considering much of the online discussion surrounding "Superman," it's difficult to not imagine a lot of the more negative reaction comes from fans still holding out hope that somehow Henry Cavill will be cast once more as Superman and Zack Snyder's "SnyderVerse" will be restored.

"Superman" is written and directed by James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios. The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Also appearing are Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl.

Much about the film is still being kept under wraps, including the plot and the cast. For example, Alan Tudyk is set to appear in the film but so far his role is secret. Considering the voice work Tudyk has done in the past, the possibilities for his casting are fairly limitless.

A lot is riding on "Superman." As the first film of the new DCU, everything that follows is in part dependent on the success of James Gunn's movie. While Gunn proved what he could do with all three "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, the character of Superman is much different than the misfits of the Marvel movies.

"Superman" hits theaters July 11.
