We've seen both David Corenswet's Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor in preview videos and images for 'Superman. We've seen Superman smooching with Lois Lane, hanging out with other superheroes, and with his excitable dog Krypto. But we have yet to see the Man of Steel face-to-face with his signature antagonist. That changes now thanks to the folks over at Collider.

The image doesn't give a lot away, other than that we know it's a face-to-face confrontation between David Corenswet's Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor. We can also tell James Gunn is happy with what he's seeing, looking as gleeful as a little kid in a candy store.

While we don't get a front view, this does give us another so far rare look at Hoult's Luthor. He only appears in three shots in the "Superman" teaser: responding when he sees the Man of Steel flying past his office building, another shot when he's examining a pistol, and a close-up in which he looks injured.

The conflict between the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor is a classic one stretching back decades. Jesse Eisenberg was the last to play Luthor in live-action films, preceded by Kevin Spacey and before him the late Gene Hackman. He was also memorably portrayed by Michael Rosenbaum in the series "Smallville."

Plot details about the new "Superman" are still largely being kept under wraps but if Hoult's Luthor proves true to source material, this meeting between the pair will be a rare one. As much as Luthor works against Superman, he prefers to use intermediaries, rarely getting his hands dirty if ever. He has been known on occasion in the comics to don some kind of super armor to tussle with Superman himself, but those instances have so far been nonexistent on the big screen.

If seeing Superman and Lex Luthor face-off doesn't sate your palate, maybe you'd like to see his famous cousin Supergirl. Video recently leaked of the first look at Milly Alcock's costume in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" along with a combatant who may very well be Jason Momoa's Lobo.

"Superman" releases in theaters on July 11. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. "Superman" stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
