Liam Payne and Kate Cassidy had their first date in September 2002 and she was with him two days before he died after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires Argentina in October 2024, according to reports by Page Six.
In September 2023, Cassidy shared a video on TikTok detailing the first time she met Payne at a Charleston, South Carolina, bar where she was working in September 2022. In the post, she revealed that she was dreading the idea of working her shift until she got a text from her manager telling her Payne was at the bar and that she would be helping him.
"When I first approached him, I actually got nervous, and I, like, turned around and went behind the bar," she admitted. After some conversation, however, the "Strip That Down" singer asked for her number before leaving the bar, and they had lunch together — with Payne even prolonging his flight back to England for one day.

Cassidy and Payne first sparked relationship rumors when they were seen together dressed as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee at a Halloween party in London in October 2022. Two months later, the couple made their first official appearance at the British Fashion Awards, where they were photographed holding each other.
The two were also seen together at the opening event of Atlantis The Royal in Dubai, which took place in January 2023. Around the same time, Cassidy posted a series of photos including a selfie with Payne cuddled up behind her in an elevator. In March 2023, Cassidy accompanied Payne to the premiere of All of Those Voices, in support of fellow One Direction alum Louis Tomlinson's documentary.
Rumors of the couple's breakup started circulating because they had not been sharing as many photos together on their social media. In May 2023, a source told Us Weekly that "Liam and Kate have broken up."
The break was short lived after the the couple all but confirmed they got back together by appearing at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July 2023. In August 2023, the social media influencer posted a selfie on Instagram in honor of Payne's 30th birthday, saying, "30 never looked so good❤️happy birthday love."
The couple had since been going seemingly steady, sharing videos on TikTok doing fit checks, going on dates, and attending social events together. Payne received major backlash from fans after he said that his girlfriend was "covered up for once," in a video posted in June 2023, with comments saying that the "Perfect" singers remark was misogynistic. His girlfriend defended him in a second TikTok admitting that she prompted the comment while they were filming the video and reassured her followers saying, "I kind of just wear what I want, and he doesn't care at all what I wear."
The most recent picture of the two on Cassidy's Instagram, posted on September 1, 2024, shows the lovebirds at a wedding in Paris.
The influencer most recently shared an image gallery of their visit to Argentina on TikTok, on October 13, just three days before Payne's death. In one picture of the late former boy band member on horseback, the caption reads, "I am very grateful for the simple things in life 🫶❤️."
Payne's final posts on social media were uploaded to Snapchat on the day of his death with a picture of himself in a band tee and jeans with a baseball cap on with a caption that said, "Halloween costume idea: forrest gump." The singer also shared a short video of himself with a caption that reads, "Lovely day in Argentina❤️ ." Among the last things the artist uploaded was the picture Cassidy shared in honor of his 30th birthday in 2022.
According to local Argentinian police, Liam Payne's body was found after emergency services responded to a call from the hotel where the pop star was staying.
Payne is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with ex Cheryl Cole.
