Emo Jimmy Butler is back on the scene (no pun intended) and after straightening his hair once again, he made an appearance in iconic pop-punk band Fall Out Boy's latest music video for its single "So Much (For) Stardust," which was released on Wednesday.

Butler made waves in October when he showed up to the Miami Heat's media day with straight hair and emo piercings, one year after arriving at media day with dreadlocks that were gone by the time the season started. Media day photos and headshots generally follow the player for the rest of the year.

"Don't make me break character right now," Butler said at Heat media day. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, laugh it up [...] I'm very emotional right now. This is my emo state and I like this. This is me. This is how I'm feeling as of late."

It was never made clear what prompted the look, but at the time, some speculated that Butler was faux-emotional because the Heat failed to land Damian Lillard in a trade after an offseason filled with mutual interest between the former Portland Trail Blazers guard and the Heat organization. Lillard was ultimately dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Butler's teammates were highly amused when they saw their star teammate.

"That is not real," Heat big man Bam Adebayo said, via the NBA website. "... That is [expletive] hilarious."

Not only was it real, but Emo Jimmy Butler is now a repeat character.

Like many Fall Out Boy videos (and song titles), "So Much (For) Stardust" is somewhat enigmatic.

Butler stars wearing a purple cowboy outfit, complete with a shiny hat and what appears to be eyeliner. He dances to the music as Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump comes in singing "I'm in a winter mood, dreaming of spring now / I'm burning myself down / Burning myself down, burning."

Butler lip-syncs much of the song and plucks (somewhat unconvincingly) at an acoustic guitar bearing his name. Midway through, he teams up with bassist Pete Wentz, who is perhaps the most famous member of the band. Near the end, Wentz (who also wears a shiny cowboy suit) tosses his hat to Butler. The video fades out with Wentz sitting in front of a mirror.

Three hours after it dropped on YouTube, the video already had more than 40,000 views.

"[Most] unserious band of all time, and I love them for it. He's killing it here," user fireflyintheblack posted in one of the video's top comments.

It remains to be seen if emo is just a phase for last year's Eastern Conference finals MVP, but perhaps he (like Fall Out Boy sings in the song) needs "the sound of crowds, or I can't fall asleep at night."
