Elon Musk has offered a rare glimpse into his overnight stays at the Trump White House, which involve late-night ice cream binges.
The Context
As the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has been a central figure in President Donald Trump's effort to aggressively tighten federal spending and reduce the federal workforce. Under Musk's leadership, the task force has driven thousands of job cuts across various agencies and departments, drawing scrutiny for its methods and the billionaire's influence on the government.

What To Know
The tech mogul said during the briefing that he had repeatedly slept in the Lincoln Bedroom on Trump's invitation.
"Sometimes I stay at the White House," the world's richest man told a group of journalists, according to a report from The Washington Post. "The president's, very, very, I guess we're good friends, and we'll be on Air Force One or Marine One, and then he's like, 'Hey, do you want to stay over?' and I'm like, 'Sure.' I didn't request it, to be sure."
On at least one occasion, Musk said, he consumed an entire tub of caramel Häagen-Dazs.
"He'll actually call at night and say like, 'By the way, make sure you get some ice cream from the kitchen,'" Musk said.
"I ate a whole tub of ice cream ... It was epic. I mean, don't tell RFK," he continued, referring to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
"This stuff is amazing," Musk said. "I ate a whole tub of it, added three pounds in one night."
Musk, who has been the subject of protests in recent months, intends to scale back his role in the administration. He said he would remain involved with DOGE, estimating one to two days of work per week.
Musk said DOGE had achieved $160 billion in savings so far, with a target of $1 trillion in cuts by the next fiscal year. Partnership for Public Service (PSP), a nonpartisan research group, estimates that DOGE's actions may have cost taxpayers approximately $135 billion in the current fiscal year due to factors such as inefficiencies, rehiring costs, and lost productivity
A senior adviser to Trump, Musk's government status is scheduled to end on May 30. His reduced political role follows a sharp 71 percent decline in Tesla's quarterly earnings amid boycotts against the car company.

What Happens Next
Musk is expected to focus on his companies in the coming months while remaining a part-time adviser to the Trump administration.
Vice President JD Vance said that DOGE would continue in some form without Musk at some point in the future, telling reporters: "DOGE has got a lot of work to do, and that work is going to continue after Elon leaves.
"But fundamentally, Elon is going to remain a friend and an adviser of both me and the president."
