Disney has long laid plans for a streaming service to compete with Netflix (industry finance types are calling it "Disneyflix"). Now that its acquisition of Fox is nearly a done deal, those designs are being unveiled. On Sunday, the New York Times revealed part of the Disney streaming lineup, including new details regarding the Star Wars series, Marvel possibilities and some surprising remakes.
Star Wars
Jon Favreau's (Iron Man) live-action Star Wars show is projected to cost $100 million for 10 episodes, comparable to the per-episode budget for Game of Thrones. Set seven years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the series is rumored to be set on the planet of Mandalore, home of Boba Fett's distinctive armor. The live-action Star Wars series will be joined on the Disney streaming service by a new season of animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Disney is also working to buy back rights to the Star Wars Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy.

Marvel Movies

...
The licensing deal with Netflix is coming to an end. Captain Marvel, coming March 2019, is set to be the first Marvel Studios movie heading straight for the Disney streaming service after its theatrical run. Original Marvel TV series are also being planned, but no titles have been announced. It's not yet clear what this will mean for Netflix Marvel series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
Original Movies
Here's where the more kids-oriented focus of the Disney streaming service becomes more apparent. One of Disney's first original movies for the service will be an adaptation of boy detective series Timmy Failure, directed by Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, The Cobbler). At least eight other movies are in development for the service, including a movie about sled dogs and a movie with Anna Kendrick playing Santa's daughter.

Disney Remakes

...
In parallel with theatrical remakes, including the upcoming Mulan, Aladdin, Dumbo and The Lion King, Disney will be releasing remakes directly to their streaming service. Plans so far include live-action versions of 1955's Lady and the Tramp and The Sword in the Stone. Disney is also considering a remake of the hit 1987 comedy, Three Men and a Baby.
Original Series
Similar to the Disney Channel, the streaming service will include original series, with plans for new series based on High School Musical , Monsters Inc. and the Muppets. The new series will join "at least" 5,000 episodes of old Disney television.
Hulu vs. Disneyflix
There will be no R-rated movies on the Disney streaming service. Instead, content aimed at adults will be reserved for Hulu. Once the Fox acquisition is complete, Disney will be majority shareholder of that streaming service, which will become home to Fox properties, including The Simpsons.
The unnamed Disney streaming service doesn't yet have a launch date.
