Democratic congresswoman Dina Titus resurfaced the widely debunked rumor about JD Vance having sexual intercourse with a couch during a speech at a Kamala Harris rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday.
"I got a word for JD Vance, you better hide behind that sofa cause we're comin' for you," Titus said.
It appears to be a reference to a mega-viral joke that emerged after he was announced as Trump's running mate. A user on X, formerly Twitter, posted a fake excerpt from Vance's 2016 memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" that included the lewd anecdote.

The X post has since been deleted and the claim was debunked. Yet the joke has received wide attention and been referenced by various high-profile Democrats.

Tim Walz was widely believed to be referencing the rumor during his speech on August 6, just after his announcement as Harris' running mate, during a rally in Philadelphia.
"I can't wait to debate the guy," said Walz. "That is if he's willing to get off the couch and show up."
Walz' statement was met with laughter and applause from the audience and many noticed Kamala Harris' seemingly surprised reaction. One X account wrote: "She did not expect him to come with that kind of smoke."
Titus' comments came after she called herself a "miserable childless cat lady," referring to JD Vance's comments during an interview with Fox News in 2021 while running for U.S. Senate in Ohio.
"We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, so they want to make of the country miserable too," he said for Fox in 2021.
The clip resurfaced when he was announced as Trump's running mate, and Titus referenced it saying: "JD Vance apologized to my cat, but he never apologized to me for what he had to say."
Newsweek has contacted JD Vance through Trump's presidential campaign office.
In an interview with CNN on Sunday, JD Vance described Democrats' attacks on him as "schoolyard bullying" when asked about his response to Walz calling him and Trump weird.
Vance also said that Democrats "levy the charge" more against him than Trump. The Republican VP candidate said Democrats are using these attacks to distract people from "their own policy failures."
