Katie Phenix added: "I sit here in absolute shock, awe, and disbelief as I read post after post about the happenings of today. We send all our love, prayers, and kind words to those who are also suffering in our community during this time."
David Phenix, originally from Atlanta, is now in stable condition, his daughter reported. According to his Facebook profile, before being employed at Apalachee High School he worked for Walnut Grove High School and Rockdale County High School.
The 14-year-old student who opened fire at the school on Wednesday morning surrendered to law enforcement when confronted and was arrested. Chris Hosey, the director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said he will be charged for murder as an adult.
Authorities said the gunman used an "AR-platform style weapon" in the shooting, but the way he got access to the firearm is still being investigated. The F.B.I. revealed that the suspect, now in custody, was already on law enforcement's radar after being questioned about online threats over a year ago. The teen, who has been identified as Colt Gray, had posted unspecified threats of a school shooting at "an unidentified location and time" on an online gaming site.
