Multiple flavors of cream cheese and tofu, manufactured and distributed by Made Fresh Salads, have been recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on February 20, 2026, which states the bacteria can “cause serious and sometimes fatal infections,” particularly in vulnerable populations.

The affected varieties include:

All the cream cheese and tofu products were sold in 5-pound white plastic tubs and carried expiration dates—which can be found on the bottom left corner of the label—through February 27, 2026.

All products were distributed to retailers and distributors in New York City boroughs including Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, the FDA announcement said.

The FDA said that the company—Made Fresh Salads—identified, through a routine sampling program, that part of the mixer equipment used to manufacture the products was contaminated with the bacteria. It has since stopped using the contaminated mixer and disposed of it.

Why the Recall Matters

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, and sometimes “life-threatening” infections, particularly among young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.

People in more sensitive groups could experience symptoms ranging from a stiff neck and confusion to a loss of balance and convulsions.

The FDA says that “Listeria monocytogenes can thrive in unsanitary food production conditions, leading to contamination of the food.”

While healthy people may experience symptoms such as fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea for around one to three days, pregnant people are at increased risk for severe complications, including miscarriage, stillbirth, and a premature delivery.

The FDA is advising those who may have consumed the product and believe they have symptoms to seek medical help “immediately.”

What Customers Should Do If They Have the Contaminated Product

At the time of publishing, there have been no illnesses or issues reported in connection with the recalled cream cheese and tofu flavors, but customers who have purchased any of the affected products have been advised to get a refund by returning them to the place of purchase.

They can also call Made Fresh Salads from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, at 1-718-765-0082 if they have any questions or concerns.
