Amazon Prime Video has ordered a children's animated series of the biblical drama The Chosen titled The Chosen Adventures, Variety reported.
Meanwhile, creator Dallas Jenkins has confirmed that production on Season 6 of the original live-action series is underway, with a staggered release plan that includes a theatrical finale.
Why It Matters
The announcement expands The Chosen franchise. While the animated series targets young viewers and families, broadening The Chosen's demographic beyond its adult faith-based audience, the production plan for Season 6—episodic streaming on Prime Video combined with a theatrical finale—reflects an increasingly hybrid approach to releasing premium franchise content.

What To Know
Prime Video ordered 14 episodes of The Chosen Adventures, which was co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and 5&2 Studios, a press release sent to Newsweek states.
The series follows two children in Capernaum who meet Jesus as a wise craftsman. Voice casting credits include Paul Walter Hauser as Sheep, Yvonne Orji as Pigeon and The Chosen actor Jonathan Roumie as Jesus.

Jenkins and 5&2 Studios have confirmed Season 6 is in production, with filming having begun in April 2025 in North Texas and additional location shoots reported in Utah and Italy for crucifixion sequences. Multiple outlets, including the Star-Telegram, report that Season 6 will concentrate on the 24 hours leading up to Jesus' crucifixion and that production will be longer and more logistically complex than prior seasons.
The first block of Season 6 episodes will stream on Prime Video, and the Season 6 finale will be released as a standalone feature film exclusively in theaters on March 12, 2027, according to Deadline.
The outlet also reported that The Chosen Season 7 will premiere as a film "depicting the resurrection of Jesus" on March 31, 2028.
What People Are Saying
The Chosen's official Instagram account confirmed the show was filming on April 14: "Lights, camera...You know the drill. Season 6 filming starts today."
Jenkins first shared details about The Chosen Adventures in a Variety interview in September 2024: "There's room here to tell the story of Jesus through the eyes of children in the whimsical format of animation. We thought there's something there, seeing Jesus through the eyes of kids. We're not going to expand on that in the mothership show. But what if we took time with that, in an animated show that was witty and fun and that adults could appreciate. We really wanted to get this right. We can't afford for our second project to come out of the gate and people to go, 'you know, it's fine.' But we really want to make sure that the audience really loves it."
What Happens Next
A spokesperson for The Chosen Adventures confirmed to Newsweek that the show will premiere on Prime Video on October 17 in multiple territories including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Latin America and more.
