On Wednesday, St. Louis Cardinals star shortstop Masyn Winn was involved in a car accident on US-40 following his walk-off hit against the New York Mets. Fortunately, Winn was not injured in the crash and was back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers.

Winn picked up his first RBI of the season with his game-winning hit and helped the Cardinals improve to 4-2 to start the season. The 24-year-old confirmed on Thursday that he was in good spirits and ready to get back on the field following the accident.

On Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News Democrat spoke with Winn, who recounted the incident and explained what took place.

"Masyn Winn said he was merging onto 40 on Wednesday afternoon with Dustin May ahead of him and Nolan Gorman behind him. He was trying to get right to get off at Jefferson, hydroplaned, bounced off both barriers," Jones posted on X. "May called the trainers, Gorman called security who called the cops."

Winn had two teammates close by when the accident occurred that acted quickly to make sure he was OK. The Cardinals are also fortunate that he didn't suffer any severe injuries, as any time without him would be a big blow to the lineup, and they would also be losing his strong defensive presence.

The 24-year-old made only three errors last season and ultimately won his first Gold Glove despite missing the final month of the season with a torn meniscus. The Cardinals may be rebuilding, but now is a good time for them to see what they have in their young core, which Winn is a key part of.
