Newcomers include Katie Leung as Lady Araminta Gun, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li, and Isabella Wei as Posy Li. These characters will bring fresh intrigue to the marriage mart, likely to stir the pot as the queen selects her "Diamond of the Season."
What Is Season 4 Of 'Bridgerton' About?
The new season will follow Benedict Bridgerton's journey as he unexpectedly falls for Sophie Baek, a woman he meets at his mother's masquerade ball. Sophie is revealed to be a maid with a hidden past, teasing a Cinderella-esque romance with forbidden love.
Who Are The New Characters In 'Bridgerton' Season 4?
In addition to Sophie Baek, several new characters will shake up the Bridgerton universe:
- Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung): A twice-widowed noblewoman determined to secure high-status marriages for her daughters.
- Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao): Lady Araminta's eldest daughter, described as vain and ambitious, with her sights set on Benedict Bridgerton.
- Posy Li (Isabella Wei): Rosamund's kinder, more talkative sister who often puts her foot in her mouth.
Which Julia Quinn Book Is The New Season Based On?
Season 4 is inspired by An Offer from a Gentleman, the third book in Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series. The novel follows Benedict's romance with Sophie, a young woman from a noble background who has been reduced to servitude. The story mirrors the classic Cinderella tale: a masked ball, an enchanted evening and a dramatic fallout when the truth is revealed.
Showrunner Jess Brownell has teased that this will be the most faithful adaptation of Quinn's novels yet. Per Variety, key moments from An Offer from a Gentleman, such as the masquerade ball and a pivotal lakeside scene, will be central to the season's storyline.
"Of course, some smaller things have changed," Brownell said. "Character motivation, especially Benedict's, is quite different from the book in that Luke Thompson brings this wonderful sensitivity and self-awareness to the character. In Benedict's story of trying to woo Sophie, I think the character is a bit more delicate and thoughtful, perhaps, in the way he goes about it."
