A man's "silly mistake" over a gift on their wedding registry has caused a bride- and groom-to-be to go viral.

Caroline Wise, 25, and Austin Reed Thomas, 27, are preparing to get married later this year, but when Wise requested a set of plates on their wedding registry, Thomas became concerned.

She told Newsweek that after their friends and family told her how "relatable" the situation was, she decided to post it to TikTok, where it has been viewed 1.4 million times since being shared on June 7.

Speaking in front of an imposed screen on her account @wisecaro, Wise showed off the message she received from her fiance asking her to "remove those bamboo plates" from their wedding registry as "I'm allergic to bamboo."

She explained to him, and the audience, that the plates are not made from bamboo whatsoever—they're quite clearly porcelain, and have a simple bamboo design on them.

To which he responded: "How am I supposed to know that?"

Wise told Newsweek that the couple, who met on Halloween two years ago and are set to be married in November, have "a very lighthearted and fun relationship."

"We don't take ourselves too seriously. I just thought it was a silly mistake and was poking fun at how a lot of men are not super familiar with home/kitchen decor!"

Around 80 percent of engaged couples in the United States set up gift registries ahead of their big day, according to wedding experts The Knot.

And while some couples might worry about the prices of items they'd like, a survey from the company found that the average wedding gift spend was around $160. However, they advise registering for gifts at varying costs, so all invitees feel comfortable with their price range.

Wise said she never expected the clip to go viral, explaining: "At first, I had only posted the exchange on my Snapchat story. All of my friends were messaging me saying how funny and relatable they thought it was, so I decided on a whim to post it on TikTok."

Wise's video had a massive reaction, with thousands of people commenting on the clip, with one joking: "Welcome to the rest of your life."

Many became annoyed on Wise's behalf, one writing, "It's not too late" and one even asking: "Are we sure we want this to be our husband?"

But Wise is taking no notice, saying she knows "posting on the internet comes with assumptions and negativity," but admitting she was "unprepared for just how much negativity there would be."

"Ultimately I am very secure in our relationship and everyone who knows us in real life knows what a great man and partner Reed is," she said.

"Our friends and family think we are great for each other and I feel so lucky to get to marry him. I wish people remembered how nuanced interpersonal relationships can be!"

The couple knew from their very first date that they had "found our person," Wise said, and they became engaged last year while on vacation in South Carolina.

They live in Texas with their two dogs, and are counting down to their nuptials on November 2.
