The New York Yankees managed to bring back their entire outfield this offseason after signing Cody Bellinger to a long-term contract and signing Trent Grisham on a one-year qualifying offer.

While bringing back Bellinger and Grisham is great for New York's outlook this season, it has put a damper on expectations for 23-year-old Jasson Domínguez. In his first full season with the Yankees, Domínguez slashed .257/.331/.388 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs, leveraging his switch-hitting ability and being utilized to fill holes in the roster, especially when Judge was out with injury.

Despite a hot start to spring training, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman gave a reality check on Domínguez's role with the team this season.

“He’s taking his reps and trying to push himself in the mix,” Cashman said, per the New York Post's Howie Kussoy. “Clearly the everyday spot’s not there, with (Trent) Grisham and (Cody) Bellinger and (Aaron) Judge and (Giancarlo) Stanton, currently. But you know how things change really quickly, so all he can do right now, him and (Spencer) Jones, as well as (Randal) Grichuk and anybody else, is put themselves in a position for us to take notice and we’ll evaluate what opportunities exist at the end of camp and make calls.

“Hopefully those calls will be tough ones to make. He’s been a pro. I think he knows what’s in his control, which is performing, showing a commitment level on a day-in and day-out basis, and then letting the rest take care of itself. So he knows what’s in his control, which is that, and what’s not in his control, which is how the roster shakes out."

Domínguez will need to continue to prove himself to carve out a role for himself this season, especially after the Yankees signed 34-year-old veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk. Though the young outfielder has a lot of potential, there is no clear path to an everyday spot in the lineup right now.
