The Toronto Blue Jays came up one game short of the World Series title a few months ago and wasted no time in improving their roster in free agency.
The Blue Jays have added multiple stars, including Dylan Cease, since losing Game 7 of the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. But these additions likely mean Chris Bassitt, who's now a free agent, has pitched his last inning with the Blue Jays.
Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball predicted Bassitt would opt to sign a one-year, $16 million deal with the Detroit Tigers in free agency.

"Again, pick any team, and you can make a case for signing Bassitt, but our landing spot choice is the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers could use someone who takes the ball every fifth day, as there is a lot of uncertainty beyond Tarik Skubal in that rotation," Finkelstein wrote. "Casey Mize, Jack Flaherty, and Reese Olson provide some solid options with upside, but a floor that is awfully concerning if the time is now to win it all with Skubal."
The Tigers need to add pitching to their rotation this offseason. Tarik Skubal could be on the trade block before his contract expires at the end of next season. If they trade Skubal this winter, they're desperately going to need a pitcher to replace him.
Even if they don't trade Skubal, they're going to need to add to the pitching staff.
A reliable veteran like Bassitt would be the perfect option to help the Tigers make one final postseason run with Skubal before he heads to free agency. The Tigers have the money to add Bassitt. It's only a matter of time before they make a move to improve the roster, and Bassitt could be the perfect fit.
