More than 20,000lbs of beef products have been recalled after not being inspected when imported into the U.S.
South American Meat Inc., also known as 5Gogi LLC, an importer based in California, is recalling approximately 20,111lbs of various frozen raw beef products after they were not presented to the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for "import reinspection" when being brought in from Uruguay in South America, said the agency.

The products entered the U.S. on or around March 17.
In all, nine products are included in the wide-ranging recall. The FSIS has said each comes in cardboard cases of various weight with the Uruguay establishment number "58" inside the inspection mark on the shipping box and vacuum-sealed packaging.

The items were sent to distributors, restaurants, retailers and institutions in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington. No best by date for any of the products has been given.
The lack of inspection was picked up during "routine FSIS surveillance." Newsweek has contacted South American Meat Inc. and the FSIS via email outside of normal working hours.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or illnesses caused by consuming any of the uninspected products. Anyone with concerns, such as feeling ill after eating one of the products, is urged to contact their health care provider.
FSIS has said it is concerned that some of the products may still be in consumers', distributors', restaurants', retailers' or institutions' freezers. "Any individual or entities who have purchased these products are urged not to consume or serve them," the recall notice reads. "These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."
