Amtrak has confirmed that there are no blackout dates, so travelers are free to book their journeys whenever they like.

Passengers must begin their first trip within 120 days of purchase and complete all segments of their journey within 30 days of their first journey.

The Adventure Awaits Sale passes are eligible for most Amtrak routes. Permitted routes include:

The California Zephyr
Travels approximately 2,438 miles across seven states between Chicago and San Francisco, taking in the plains of Nebraska and the high peaks of the Rockies.

Southwest Chief
Passes through eight states from Chicago to Los Angeles and features the Painted Desert, Red Cliffs of Sedona, and wide-open Western landscapes.

Empire Builder
Goes from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest, passing the Mississippi River and the North Dakota plains.

Coast Starlight
Travels along the west coast between Los Angeles and Seattle and features large parts of the Pacific Ocean coastline, the Cascade Range, and Mount Shasta.

The passes are for Coach accommodation, which features "wide reclining seats, ample legroom, no middle seats, and picturesque windows to see some of the best views our country has to offer," providing a stress-free alternative to flying or driving.

To take advantage of the sale, customers must purchase their tickets directly via the Amtrak website or mobile app during the sale window (between January 14 and January 20, 2026).

The press release also states that members of the Amtrak Guest Rewards program can "earn two points per dollar spent on each USA Rail Pass, following travel on the first segment," with points redeemable for future travel, upgrades, and perks.

Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch described the offer’s unique appeal: "With ten trip segments in 30 days, the USA Rail Pass offers travelers the freedom to discover our nation’s historic destinations, scenic routes, and cultural hubs at their own pace, while avoiding the stress of flying or driving. Our limited-time Adventure Awaits Sale encourages guests to take the multiride journey, which they’ve always dreamed of, at significant savings."
