A word search puzzle designed for children has gone viral after puzzlers noticed a glaring omission: out of the list of six words to find, one appears to be missing.

Someone attempted the wordsearch, but quickly discovered the word “heart” cannot be found anywhere in the grid.

The image, shared on Reddit’s r/mildlyinfuriating forum, shows a children’s puzzle featuring romantic words such as “love,” “angel,” “rose,” “flower,” and “gift.” While most of the words can be clearly traced and highlighted, “heart” appears to be absent—despite being printed alongside the others at the top of the page.

"They listed HEART right there with the others. Found a bunch already… but I’ve stared at this for way too long and it’s just not in the grid. Mildly infuriating doesn’t even cover it. Am I blind or did they forget to include it?" the poster said in the caption.

The post quickly gained traction as users zoomed in on the grid, debated letter placements, and questioned whether the puzzle’s creator made a mistake.

With more than 9,000 upvotes on Reddit and hundreds of comments, the post struck a nerve with Reddit users who described the oversight as especially frustrating given the puzzle’s Valentine’s theme—and the fact that the puzzle appears to be aimed at children.

The global word games market was valued at $4.2 billion in 2024, with growth projected through the next decade. While this includes crosswords, Scrabble‑style games and Wordle‑type puzzles, traditional word searches are still one of the most popular word games.

The original poster on Reddit, Angrypeanut99, said they had “stared at this for way too long” after finding all the other words but coming up empty on “heart,” asking fellow users whether they had missed something—or whether it had simply been forgotten.

Commenters quickly joined in, offering their own takes. One user wrote, “Yet there’s two ‘Gift’s,” pointing out that the word “gift” appears twice in the grid. Another joked that the omission was “so heartless,” while a third quipped, “I guess the person making it didn’t have their heart in it.”

Some attempted to find alternative explanations. One commenter suggested it might be a typo rather than a missing word, writing: “Yeah that’s gotta be a mistake, looks like they just forgot to put it in. I only clearly see ‘neart.’”

This is not the first time a wordsearch has prompted fury online. Earlier this year a man in Tennessee is convinced he’s discovered a word search that is impossible to compete. The man took to Reddit when he was unable to find the word “taco” in among the maze of letters—only to learn it was not there.

Another man shared his fury after being unable to find the final word on a wordsearch. The Reddit user said he could find no trace of French Connection in the word search. It was only later that he realized why: it was too long a title to even fit in the word search.
