A video showcasing a cat available for adoption brought viewers to tears after they saw the sadness in her eyes and learned what had happened to her kittens.
In Romania, 2-year-old Freckles was found abandoned in the middle of nowhere, the January 8 TikTok video posted to the account @onlyrescues said. With her were her kittens, which had all been killed by passing cars. She was about to have the same heartbreaking ending when a rescuer spotted her and took her in.
She was brought to Saving Romania's Abandoned Souls Rescue, an organization working to save dogs and cats from kill shelters and the streets of Romania. This rescue group partners with the U.K.'s Only Rescues. Freckles will be staying in Romania while applications are accepted, and she'll move to the U.K. once they connect her to a home. Until then, she awaits her happy ending.

Only Rescues said in the video's caption that Freckles is the "definition of sweet" despite everything she's been through. She's low maintenance and gets along with other cats and dogs. The rescue group believes she would easily fit in with a family with "gentle, sensible children" of the recommended age of 7 or older.
Part of the caption reads: "Her kind, fuss-loving nature will make her the purr-fect companion."

Freckles is listed on the Only Rescues adoption website, but according to Saving Romania's Abandoned Souls Rescue, it is no longer taking applications. She is "reserved pending a home check."
Animal shelters often conduct home checks as part of the adoption process. This is to ensure the animal is placed in a home where it will be safe and secure as it lives out the rest of their days, which in turn will reduce the number of returns.
Newsweek reached out by email to Only Rescues for additional information and an adoption update.
